Set & Atmosphere – 9

They’ve truly nailed the underground city aesthetic here! Stepping through the bookstore "front" and diving straight into the adventure is a delight. Both rooms deliver theatrical set pieces, clever spatial design, and props that feel authentic to their environments. Lighting, sound, and physical effects elevate the immersion, while the actors bring the world vividly to life.

Story & Immersion – 9

This is where doing both rooms back-to-back shines. On its own, The Magician can feel too short and a bit underwhelming, but combined with Funhouse you get a more complete and memorable arc. The performers are excellent - delivering comedic beats, dramatic moments, and some surprising jump-scares that even a horror lightweight like me ended up loving. The blend of humor and tension worked beautifully for our group.

Puzzles & Mechanics – 6

The puzzles fit the theme and feature some cool effects and interactive moments. They leaned more toward simplicity however, focusing on discovery and skill over cleverness. That said, we ran into a few operational hiccups that pulled us out of the experience:

  • Multiple times we received information in French despite booking in English, leading to restarts of intro videos, in-game translation pauses, or relying on our one French-reading teammate.

  • A puzzle moment with the magician broke immersion when we weren’t allowed to choose a certain card.

  • A door mishap caused another pause, giving us an unintended peek into the control room at a pivotal moment in the game.

These moments didn’t spoil the fun completely, but they did take the shine off an otherwise well-paced game.

Flow – 8

Progression was smooth and it was always clear on what next steps were. Playing both rooms together helped maintain momentum overall, but there were certainly moments of downtime and tighter spaces for our larger group of 6. For peak engagement, 3-4 players might be ideal.

Verdict – 8.0

An ambitious, immersive two-part experience with fantastical acting, clever effects, and a world that feels genuinely hidden beneath the streets of Paris. The combination of The Magician and Funhouse is absolutely worth booking together for a fuller, more satisfying adventure.
